LOM law and EV chargers at work: is your company affected in 2026?

France's mobility orientation law (LOM) has for several years imposed progressive obligations on businesses regarding EV chargers in their car parks. Here's what actually applies in 2026, and how to turn this obligation into a revenue opportunity.

New buildings: mandatory pre-wiring

Any non-residential building whose building permit was filed after 11 March 2021 must include pre-wiring for EV chargers: conduits, cable routes and sufficient electrical capacity must be planned from construction, even if the chargers themselves aren't installed right away.

Existing car parks: the thresholds that trigger the obligation

• Businesses with more than 100 employees with a car park of more than 20 spaces: mandatory installation of one charging point per 20 parking spaces.
• Businesses with more than 250 employees, or turnover above €50 million: since 1 January 2025, at least 5% of spaces must be equipped with working chargers.
• Car parks with more than 200 spaces: at least 2 chargers must be accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Exceptions exist for certain car parks belonging to businesses below these thresholds. If you're unsure of your situation, an assessment by an IRVE-certified installer will clarify your exact obligations.

An obligation that can become a source of income

Once chargers are installed for compliance, nothing requires reserving them exclusively for employees during office hours. Outside opening hours (evenings, weekends), these chargers can be shared via ShareNplug with local residents or other drivers, turning a compliance expense into an asset generating extra income.
