Shared EV charger at a hotel or campsite: how profitable is it for the business?

Tourism accommodation guide — July 2026

Offering an EV charger is no longer just a marketing angle for hotels, campsites and guesthouses: it has become a genuine booking criterion for a clientele increasingly driving electric. And it's also a source of extra income, if the business picks the right economic model.

A real booking criterion

For an EV driver on the road, the absence of an on-site charging option is a real logistical problem, not just a minor inconvenience. A business that lists a visible charger on its profile (Booking, Google, its own site) captures guests who would otherwise look elsewhere — not to mention the "eco-friendly" image it projects.

How much it can bring in

Figures observed in the sector typically range from €800 to €3,000 in extra annual income per charging point, depending on usage rate and pricing. As a worked example: a 22kW charger used an average of 5 hours a day, billing up to 110kWh a day with an 18-28 cent margin per kWh, can represent around €20 to €30 in gross profit per day — roughly €7,300 to €10,700 a year for a business open year-round.

For a seasonal campsite, it's possible to only bill usage during the open season, avoiding a year-round electricity subscription for a service used just a few months.

The ShareNplug model for businesses

Unlike a fixed subscription with a traditional charging network operator, ShareNplug works with no subscription: the business sets its own price per kWh, every session is billed automatically to the guest, and payment is transferred within 5 business days. If the charger isn't used in a given month (low season), the business pays ShareNplug nothing.

Grants to help finance the installation

For a car park open to guests, the ADVENIR grant can cover up to 50% of the installation cost excl. tax, capped at €960 excl. tax per charging point. Full details are in our guide to the 2026 ADVENIR grant.
